friday!!
watched new moon and had frolick with mag. i say it liek frolick was the highlight of the day. which it kinda was. haha cause new moon was really not that great. although MUCH better than the first one, it kinda leaves a sense of... i don't know the word the describe it. hmm maybe dissatisfaction is the right word? but i hope eclipse will be better!!
anyways. FROLICK (which i paid for ahem) was damn shiok. lychee flavoured (: with kitkat and fruit wtv pebbles or crunch or something. hahahah. damn good. and we got the BIIIIIG cup ;)
saw clement and jac outside of cine where they proceeded to steal our lychee flavoured yoghurt :(
mag left her vry aunty-ish umbrella in billy bombers so had to go back to get it HAHA. walked around heerens, saw nice shoes, and went off to meet her lawyer cousin! haha.
dinner at her place was vryvry good (: made me vryvry full but there was no dessert :( LOL. not that i'm complaining. but these days i have an insatiable craving for chocolate and ice cream and kitkat :(
Saturday!
training in the morning. tampines with JOLENE(sorry!!) jac rah black clem and sam! haha not the usual group but it was vry fun! cause we walked all over tampines trying to find a place to eat. and settled for macdonalds -.-
aft lunch went for dessert at FROLICK. yes again. hahaha it is so damn good i swear (: but not vry affordable :( sigh.
by the time i reached home was close to 430. training got cancelled. had mag's shepherds pie for dinner which was vry good. and sent my dad to the airport! had starbucks (So goood) but they ran out of peppermint so settled for dark cherry :(
Today,
slept, churched, slept, ate.
i'm home alone now! both parents are overseas and i'm bored o.o
out tmr! buying presents for a certain somebody -.-
mass dance too. sigh. i want frolick!! s
shit

Here you go clement! (:
TJCCC visited Batu Caves. and Batu Caves survived!!
This was the first overseas trip with a school team and i'm very very glad i got to do so with TJCCC 09/10. Thankfully my parents agreed to let me go (:
The trip was fruitful both physically, and mentally.
Going overseas for a sports trip always bring me back several things i would reflect about, and think about how i can improve my game (or climb in this case).
On the way to KL!
Malaysian Sunset
Dengue prevention 101
Reaching Malaysia, I already felt overwhelmed by this sense of nervousness and excitement. To me, the adventure didn't start when we reached the cliff, but started when we were in the cab, looking out at the cliffs that seemed to touch the sky. In my mind i thought, "how is it humanly possible to scale that towering mass of rocks?!".
Insanely high
Upon reaching the cliff, emotions were all jumbled in my head. Nervousness, excitement, trepidation. The natural rocks were a whole new experience. I guess to all of us we never imagined the significant difference between natural and artificial rock. Natural rock "forced" us to be more aware of footwork and technique. While artificial rock allowed us to "power" through the hard part of some routes.
In natural rock, we hardly felt pumped. I guess this is due to the fact that on natural cliffs there are usually several resting points where the wall is inclined forward, and just by leaning forward, the climber can just shake off and rest. Thus, alot of the time, we focused on our technique, and where we placed our feet. Not only where we placed our feet, but also hitting that "sweet spot" the first time. Without having to adjust or shimmy our foot here and there.
Every night after our days climb, we would have a several hours long debrief, where everyone was welcome to express their thoughts and reflect on that days climb. Needless to say it was both emotional, and insightful. By going around the group, and getting different opinions on the climbs, i think we all gained more experience, and were able to identify where our weaknesses are and also how we can improve.
For most of us, the main culprit with bad climbs lay in our mentality. Even before the route started, most of us had this negative energy around us, telling us that the cliff was too high, too scary for us to scale. By doing so, it'll be like tying yourself to your ground. Because when you reach a certain point of the route, you'll find that its impossible to continue.
I realise that i'm actually one of those people who have a very negative outlook on a climb. In school, i'll always be trying to compare myself to other people, and telling myself that "omg it's so hard how am i supposed to complete the route??". Also, looking at the other climbers, who have no problem scaling mega-roof white/blue, it gives me this sense of inferiority. How could these climbers, who've been climbing for such a short time, be so good? Half of my heart feels proud, proud that they belong to the same club as me. But the other half is jealous, of their strength, and their technique.
The Imba strong group of guys!
So embarking on this trip, i told myself to be positive. I have to keep in my mind that i CAN do it. I can complete the route. It does not matter whether other people have completed it or not. I'll just try my best to do the route. This was what Kelly was talking about. Be more process orientated, not result orientated. And guess what? by being more positive, it actually does help your climbing. Psyching yourself up, cheering yourself on, it works wonders on your performance.
Completing a 6A+ or 6B route may not seem crazy to some people, especially compared to the climbers who did 7A routes at Camp5, but it was an accomplishment. And i'm glad i had the mindset to not give up, and push on. King of Resilience!! (:
Wow this post has been really long. Just some thoughts on the trip. i have much more, but i dont want to bore you guys.
What Mr Kao said really hit home. W.I.N. "What's Important Now". Focus on the process, and if the results are good, its a bonus. But it matters not if you win or lose. Its the experiences you gain along the way.
Thank you TJCCC 09/10 for making this trip an unforgettable one. The bonds formed will be timeless, the experiences gained, priceless.
Oh and Merry christmas! My house has the tree up! (:

Back from Batu Caves with TJCCC.
i must say, that this trip has been fun, enriching, and i wouldn't mind doing it again. really.
I think this batch of climbers have really bonded together in ways that i've never thought it would. The trip has opened (haha) us up in so many ways, and brought us closer together as climbers, and as friends.
Getting to know each and every one of them better, even the teachers, really opened up my eyes to the difference in our lives. But the one thing we have in common is the passion to climb. At that commonality creates this really special bond that really makes us a family.
The trip was a major success, other than minor inconveniences, everything went well. Really got to say that i'm happy that we were able to go on this trip together. Thanks to the teacher's insistence that we have this climbing trip, and to everyone who helped plan, organise and carry out the trip.
I WANT TO GO AGAIN!!!!
